Why does my mobile device need screen lock to use 2-step verification (2SV)?

A screen lock feature including a passcode or biometric authentication (like Face ID or Fingerprint ID) on your mobile device is required to activate and use 2-step verification.

Using a screen lock feature keeps your personal and financial information more secure.

If you’re using an Android device, select the Settings icon on the home screen, select Security and then Screen lock. (Steps may vary based on your version of Android device.)

On an Apple iPhone, open the Settings app, select Face ID & passcode and then select Turn passcode on or use the toggle to select iPhone unlock to turn on Face ID. (Steps may vary based on your version of Apple device.)

You can also refer to your device settings on how to set up your preferred method of screen lock.

2-step verification is required for both mobile and online banking. It’s one of the best tools we’ve got to guard against fraud.
