What's a cash advance?

A cash advance is when you transfer or access funds from your credit card account. You may do that from an ABM, at a Scotiabank branch, through a balance transfer (when you ask us to transfer funds from another credit product you have with us or another financial institution) or using a Scotia Credit Card Cheque to pay someone.

Cash advances also include cash-like transactions such as wire transfers, foreign currency, travellers cheques, money orders, and purchase of gaming chips. American Express Cards are not presently accepted for the purchase of lottery tickets or gaming chips.

Transaction fees for cash advances vary so please take a look at the Fees at a Glance page on our website for current information. You can also learn more about how this might impact your credit score on ScotiaAdvice+.
