What is Access Type?
An account’s Access Type determines how you access that account at ABMs, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, and branches. The type of account (day-to-day banking, Credit Card, etc.) determines the Access Type options available to you.
Day-to-day banking accounts are either Chequing or Savings type accounts, with specific features and benefits associated with each. Changing the Access Type for an account doesn’t change the type of account, i.e., the features and benefits of your account type remain the same regardless of the Access Type you choose. What does change is how you access that account at ABMs, POS terminals, branches, or through online and mobile banking.
Below are the Access Types options and how they affect your access:
Chequing: an account with this setting can be accessed at an ABM or POS terminal by selecting the “Chequing” option. Only one account can be set to “Chequing” at any given time.
Savings: an account with this setting can be accessed at an ABM or POS terminal by selecting the “Savings” option. Only one account can be set to “Savings” at any given time.
Credit Card: use this setting for accessing your credit card at ABMs. If you have more than one credit card, select this setting for the Credit Card account you use most often. Additional credit cards can be set to “Other.”
Other: accounts with this setting can be accessed via the “Other” option at Scotiabank ABMs, but are not accessible via POS terminals or non-Scotiabank ABMs. Use this setting for additional Credit Card accounts or for Line of Credit accounts.
ABB Only: accounts with this setting can only be accessed in person at any Scotiabank branch or through online and mobile banking (if selected). They can’t be accessed at ABMs or POS terminals. Please note that ‘ABB only’ and ‘Online/Mobile banking’ are the only options available for accessing USD accounts.
No Access: this setting blocks access to the account entirely. You can’t access the account at ABMs or POS terminals, in-person at a branch, or through online or mobile banking. You will still see the account listed in your Account Summary online, but it will be “view only” so you won't be able to use it for transactions.
