Why are there two different 2-step verification options?

Both mobile and online banking require 2-step verification to guard against fraud. There are two verification options available to ensure all accounts have an extra layer of security.

To get a verification code on your phone, you’ll need to register your phone number. This will allow us to send a verification code if necessary to confirm it’s really you trying to access your account.

With push notifications, Scotiabank sends a message directly to your mobile device to confirm it’s you. When activated, push notifications become your main method for verification.

We encourage you to set up both verification methods to ensure that you always have a way to verify your identity, including when you need to reset your password, username, or push notifications.
