What's a cash advance?
A cash advance happens when funds are either advanced or withdrawn from your credit card account.
Cash advances include:
- When you use your credit card to access money at an ABM, a branch, by telephone, online or through a mobile device
- Requesting a balance transfer
- Using a Scotia credit card cheque
- Making cash-like transactions
- Using our telephone or online banking to transfer funds from your credit card account to pay bills or transfer funds
If you frequently need to withdraw cash for everyday spending, you may want to consider applying for a line of credit, where there is currently no fee to withdraw funds.
Fees for cash advances vary so please take a look at the Fees at a glance page on our website for current information. You can also learn more about cash advances and alternative solutions on Advice+.
